Itinerary

Day 1: Marsa Alam / Giza Sightseeing

Pick-up from the hotel in Marsa Alam comes by air-conditioned modern vehicle to Hurghada Airport for the flight to Cairo, where an expert Egyptologist guide leads a visit to Saqqara, part of Memphis’s massive necropolis and burial site of the most ancient Pharaohs, including the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, designed by the architect Imhotep, along with the Teti Pyramid and Tombs. A transfer to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, follows, with the colossal statue of Ramses II and the still half-buried Hathor Temple nearby. The drive continues to the famous Giza Plateau, home to the Great Pyramids, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, including the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the Middle Pyramids of Chephren, the smallest Pyramid of Mykerinos, and the mysterious Sphinx, with a visit to the Valley Temple facing it. Lunch is included en route, before a transfer to the hotel for free leisure time and an overnight stay in Cairo.

Day 2: Cairo Sightseeing / Return Hurghada

A relaxing breakfast at the Cairo hotel precedes some leisurely free time before the day’s touring begins at the world-renowned Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, built in neo-classical style by French architect Marcel Dourgnon and home to a collection of over 120,000 masterpieces spanning the Pre-Dynastic era, the Pharaonic era, and the Greco-Roman period. The tour continues to the Citadel of Saladin, overlooking the city from the Muqattam Hills, where the magnificent Mohammed Ali Alabaster Mosque, built in Turkish style and similar to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, stands as one of Cairo’s greatest landmarks, its minarets visible from across the old city. A visit to Coptic Cairo follows, exploring the city’s Christian heritage, including the Hanging Church, a Basilica Church named for its location atop the south gate of the Fortress of Babylon and once the center of the Christian Church of Egypt. An afternoon of shopping at Khan El Khalili Bazaar rounds out the day, before free time in Cairo and a transfer to the airport for the flight back to Hurghada and a direct transfer to the hotel in Marsa Alam. Lunch is included.
