9-Day Egypt and Morocco Trip: Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Marrakech

Following breakfast, a private guide leads the day's tour of Giza, starting at the Giza Pyramids Complex, which includes the three main pyramids, several smaller satellite pyramids, the Great Sphinx, and the Valley Temple of Khafre. The Great Pyramid of King Khufu, built around 2580 BC, was the tallest structure on Earth for thousands of years and remains the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. Nearby, the Great Sphinx, carved from a single limestone ridge and traditionally linked to Khafre, is known locally as Abu al-Hol. The Valley Temple preserves some of the best evidence of Old Kingdom mummification practices and royal burial ritual. From there, the Grand Egyptian Museum houses artifacts spanning roughly 5,000 years of Egyptian history across nearly 490,000 square meters, including the Hanging Obelisk, a colossus of Ramesses II, and the full Tutankhamun collection of more than 5,000 pieces. After lunch at a local restaurant, the tour continues to Saqqara, where the Step Pyramid of Djoser, designed by Imhotep around 2700 BC, rises roughly 62 meters within Egypt's earliest large-scale stone funerary complex. The group then flies to Aswan for the overnight stay.

After breakfast, an Egyptologist guide leads a tour of Aswan's landmarks, beginning with the High Dam, built in the 1960s to control the Nile's floods, generate hydroelectric power, and store water for irrigation; its construction also formed Lake Nasser, one of the largest reservoirs made by human engineering. Nearby, the Unfinished Obelisk still sits in its granite quarry, abandoned partway through carving after a crack appeared in the stone; it's often associated with Queen Hatshepsut and offers a direct look at ancient quarrying methods. Following lunch at an Aswan restaurant, the tour visits Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis and built between the 4th century BC and the 6th century AD on an island in the Nile. Its inscriptions record the Osiris legend, a story of betrayal, loss, and renewal central to ancient Egyptian belief. The day ends with a train journey from Aswan to Luxor and check-in at a Luxor hotel.

After breakfast and the train transfer to Luxor, the day's touring begins on the West Bank at the Valley of the Kings, the New Kingdom necropolis where pharaohs including several rulers named Rameses, Amenhotep I, Hatshepsut, and Tutankhamun were buried between roughly 1570 and 1070 BC. Nearby, Hatshepsut Temple, known as Djeser-Djeseru, rises in terraces against the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari; it was built around 1479 BC and dedicated to the god Amun. The Colossi of Memnon, two quartzite statues of Amenhotep III standing about 18 meters tall and dating to roughly 1386–1350 BC, mark the site of his now largely vanished temple; earthquake damage in 27 BC later gave rise to the statues' reputation for producing sound at dawn, a phenomenon associated with the Greco-Roman name "Vocal Memnon." After lunch, the tour crosses to the East Bank for Karnak Temples, the largest religious complex built in the ancient world and the spiritual center of Egypt for more than 1,500 years, expanded continuously by successive kings and priests. A flight returns the group to Cairo for the overnight stay.

After breakfast and hotel check-out, a private transfer takes travelers to Cairo International Airport for the flight to Casablanca. On arrival at Mohammed V International Airport, a local representative meets the group with a name sign, assists with arrival and visa formalities where needed, and connects travelers with their driver for a private transfer to a Casablanca hotel. An optional light evening city tour can be added on request.

After breakfast in Casablanca, a private guide begins the day at Hassan II Mosque, completed in 1993 on the Atlantic coast and designed by architect Michel Pinseau. Its minaret rises 210 meters, the tallest of any mosque in the world, above prayer halls and courtyards built by artisans from across Morocco. A panoramic tour follows along the Corniche and Ain Diab, past French-influenced avenues, the Quartier Habous, and the Old Medina, taking in landmarks such as Rick's Café, Mohammed V Square, the Sacred Heart Cathedral, and the Central Market. The group then travels by private vehicle to Rabat, where Hassan Tower stands as an unfinished 12th-century minaret, commissioned by Caliph Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur and left at 44 meters when construction stopped after his death in 1199. Close by, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, completed in 1971, holds the tombs of Mohammed V, Hassan II, and Prince Abdallah beneath a white-marble structure designed by Cong Vo Toan. After lunch at a local Casablanca restaurant, the tour continues to the Kasbah of the Udayas, a fortress overlooking the river mouth, entered through the late 12th-century Bab Oudaia gate, and to the Royal Palace of Rabat, known as Dar al-Makhzen, built in 1864 as the monarchy's working residence; interior access is restricted, but the gates and courtyards can be viewed from outside. The group overnights in Rabat.

After breakfast, a private vehicle takes travelers along the highway from Rabat to Marrakech, with rest stops built into the drive. On arrival, guests check in to their hotel and have free time before the next day's touring begins.

After breakfast, a guide leads a tour of Marrakech's main sites, starting with Bahia Palace, a late 19th-century residence with courtyards, gardens, and rooms decorated in carved cedar, zellij tiles, and stucco. Nearby, Koutoubia Mosque, founded in 1147 by the Almohad caliph Abd al-Mu'min, anchors the city skyline with its minaret; the interior is reserved for worshippers, but the surrounding gardens are open to visitors. After lunch at a local restaurant, the tour continues into the Medina and Souks of Marrakech, a UNESCO-listed network of lanes and riads where artisans work leather, metal, textiles, lanterns, spices, and perfumes. In the evening, Jemaa el-Fna fills with food stalls, musicians, and storytellers as the square's nightly activity gets underway. The group returns to the hotel in Marrakech for the overnight stay.

On the final day of the trip, travelers transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport in time for their scheduled flight home.
